LETTER  HOME
Dear_____  ma-ma:    I hope that you're  all right;
I can hear the thunder rumblin' across the southern sky to-night.
Kids are sleep-in', the T. V.'s on__ and I'm sittin here alone,
and I just thought I'd write___ this let-ter home.

I was the one you were counting on, the family's high school star,
when Jimmy and me  ran off  that   summer,  must have broken you and daddy's heart;
yeah, we didn't need nobody's help, we were eight - teen years and grown,
and I never sent a sing - gle let - ter home.

Let - ters  home,_____    I   wrote them   in     my   dreams;
ask  me  if___I'd  known__ what  I   know  now  _  would it   e - ven have changed  a thing;
the hard-est part of look - ing back is the mis-takes are all your own,
it's harder to say___ that in those let - ters home.

Jim-my  found  some - bo  - dy  else, he told me that on New Year's   day;
he said  he   felt  like a  man with  her__ and I  watched them drive  a-way;
the child-ren and rent, there was no time for tears, just time to carry on,
I didn't know how to tell you so there was no let - ter home.

Let - ters  home,_____    I   wrote them   in     my   dreams;
ask  me  if___I'd  known__ what  I   know  now  _  would it   e - ven have changed  a thing;
the hard-est part of look - ing back is the mis-takes are all your own,
you just can't hide them in those let- ters home.

Workin' the plains_ with some oth - er girls_ and we're all doin' all-right,
we  raise our kids__  and the   jeans   still fit__ and some-times we go out_ at night;
I'm twenty nine __ years young to-day____ and I've lived them to the bone,
and I just wanted to send_ you this let-ter home.

Let - ters  home,_____    I   wrote them   in     my   dreams;
ask  me  if___I'd  known__ what  I   know  now  _  would it   e - ven have changed  a thing;
the hard-est part of look - ing back is the mis-takes are all your own,
it's harder to say___ that in those let - ters home.
Yeah, it's so hard to say___ that in those let - ters home.
