| *Update: DigiCash appears to have been purchased by: eCash Technologies, (ETI) a privately-held software company that provides a variety of payment solutions enabling secure commerce on the Internet. We license our payment software directly to financial institutions, merchants and portals, which in turn market payment services under their established brand. . eCash Technologies is based in Seattle, Washington with an office in Chicago, Illinois. | DC is a Dutch company founded in Amsterdam by Dr. David Chaum, who believed that algorithmic numbers could serve as electronic cash. Mr. Chaum has numerous patents and cryptographic inventions used in the development of his intelligent agent software. The software "runs errands" for the user, i.e., a person creates a message and "signs" it using a digital signature private key. The key is known only to the creator of the message. |

The structure of the DigiCash system includes both account-based money and token-based money. Each person maintains a central bank account with DigiCash that is filled with their larger denominations. Each person also gets a DigiCash Wallet which can be filled with token-based digital coins subtracted from an account. These coins are bundles of bits created with the basic digital cash algorithm using a blind signature. The message is sent to a recipient who possesses a public key. The creator of the public key gives it to selected correspondents. It is then used by the recipient to verify the signature on the message. Forging the signatures is considered impossible. Digital notes, ["cyberbucks"] messages signed using a private key, are issued by a cyberbank. Different keys are used for various denominations of cash;one key for $1, another for $5, etc. A depositor [user] at the cyberbank generates a note number and signs the number with his or her private key. The depositor's public is on file with the bank. When the depositor's note arrives at the bank, the bank verifies the signature and debit's the depositor's account. Then the note with the bank's signature and a withdrawal slip are sent to the depositor.
